The Passion of the PSP

Ok, so Sam has been ranting about his PSP, and it is something I've wanted to get for a while, so I was goaded this week into buying on. $249 and you get two games, hey, who can beat that deal? So I bought it with Syphon Filter and... woah am I blown away!

First of all, if you don't know what Syphon Filter is, what rock have you been under? Syphon Filter started it's life as a moderately cheesy knock-off of MGS way back on the PS1. I remember it well, as I was sneak-game crazy at the time. Syphon Filter gave me that sneak-game fix to tide me over until the next big game. And Syphon Filter was among the better ones. It did a lot of things right including give you a character that you really liked.

The most recent console Syphon Filter, however, left a lot to be desired. It was this forgettable little PS2 title that really did nothing for me. It's controls were too funky and the graphics were subpar in my opinion. Sneak-games had come a long way, and with such great entries as Splinter Cell in the genre, the PS2 Syphon Filter had entirely too many quirks.

So, I was honestly leary of the PSP game. But Sam said they were supporting it over at ClanAM PSP so I thought I'd give it a try. Wow am I glad I did.

SF:DM for the PSP is one rock solid title. The controls are about as good as you can hope for on a handheld, and the graphics are awesome. There's been many times I've been blown away by what they pulled off in this game.

And then there's the multiplayer. Ad hoc is well and good and all, and I already had that with my DS, but DAMN, sitting in a coffee shop playing a deathmatch game against someone else a hundred miles away via my PSP is pretty fucking cool. It felt so good to sit back drinking a Mocha Capucinno Latte while I popped Sam's head off with my sniper rifle (long time ClanAMers may remember me as a sniping whore named "a_Little_Girl" when we played UT^^)

Anyway, I'm hooked. If you havent tried this system, you really should. Right now the only problem with it is it doesn't have as many games as I was hoping it would (I can't find one true first person shooter for it). But that will come with time.
